  • Nick · 1 year ago
    Mony,

I think i am going to keep to my same list for this weekend. I will talk to you guys tonight about it.
  • Lord · 1 year ago
are you going to change your list?
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
No advancing to me. I'll have to live vicariously through the three who managed to place in the first round.
  • Nick · 1 year ago
I got first Monty !! Time to represent in Baltimore !!
  • tzeentch · 1 year ago
Basically the same missions as before, shuffled around a bit and with different deployments. Although a couple of the bonus points are different this time around.
  • baronofhilliard · 1 year ago
similar to the last, but the speahead where you start off with everything but troops is interesting. last time horde armies had a leg up if they got in a DOW, but this time it is more well rounded I think. anyone going to kettering ohio? show me yours i will show you mine... LISTS! AMRY LISTS! I am taking marine spam designed against mechanized armies. they are popular now.
  • Russ · 1 year ago
I'm going to the AZ one, I'm talking the same list as last time.
  • Odinsspear45 · 1 year ago
    going to lakeland? in WA
  • erfunk · 1 year ago
The Game Matrix in Lakewood? That's where I'm headed (coming from Portland, OR).
  • Odinsspear45 · 1 year ago
Heh i am flying in from Anchorage AK..
I believe 3 of us are coming... 2 for certain.
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
The closest regional is one you have to fly to? That seems pretty unfair.
  • Odinsspear45 · 1 year ago
yeah.. there was a store in anchorage and fairbanks that had qualifiers... at least it is in seattle/tacoma/lakewood.... although to be honest its not something i would do yearly..
  • Mr. Smith · 1 year ago
What armies you all running at the Lakewood game? Just wondering as I will be there also, but I guess I got lucky and live but 45minutes away.
  • erfunk · 1 year ago
The only army I have - Mech Sisters.
  • ShadRS · 1 year ago
I managed to Alt my way into the Semi's. One of the guys has no way to drive 3 hours to the nearest location on the day of the event. So yah me! Really looking forward to getting up tomorrow to drive to DC.
Speaking of which, when I called the store down there, they said the Store itself (Game Parlor in Woodbridge) wasn't the one running the event, it was a private gaming club. Any one know anything about it?
  • krootman · 1 year ago
My friend and I got screwed by our home store and because of an error on their part we cant play at our home store for the semis every though we took 1st and 2nd, but yet the 4th place guy can play......oh well have fun guys.

PS after looking at the missions id still take my angles that served me well in the first round. It sucks cause last yrs overall national winner is going to our store and id love to play him.
  • Bobx66 · 1 year ago
First of all I am blown away that they used pretty much identical missions.

But I in the midst of all of my frustration regarding the ard boyz tournament I REALLY like modified kill points.
  • Mr. Smith · 1 year ago
Looks like the Dark Eldar are going to represented in Baltimore! Lakewood, WA was

    1st: Ravenwing
    2nd: Dark Eldar
    3rd: Ravenwing/Deathwing

Was a great day and had a blast. Can't wait til Baltimore!!!!!!
  • erfunk · 1 year ago
It was a lot of fun. During the 3rd game I was at the table directly between two pairs of high scorers, including the Ravenwing army that took first (to my left) and the SM army that took fourth (to my right) in Lakewood. I wish I'd had a chance to sit and really watch both of those games, but at least I got a few short videos mid-game (and off my turn). I'll see about posting them once they're cleaned up.

And for the record, Mech Sisters placed 18th of 40-42 (two players left midway) with... 3 ties. I played Dark Eldar, mostly-Slaaneshi CSM, and Orkz, all in the back room where the detailed tables were. The last two rounds felt far too short and in both we got cutoff expecting another turn.

Is anyone willing to share lists from those that qualified for Baltimore? I'd love to see what did well, especially the offbeat.
  • Mr. Smith · 1 year ago
I would be willing to post my DE list if anyone wants. I hope you had fun though and it was great to have you Alaska guys show up. Hope you guys enjoyed the trip. Thanks.
  • erfunk · 1 year ago
That'd be great. And hurray for the Alaskans. I salute the dedication of anyone that needed to fly to get to the semis.
  • Russ · 1 year ago
I qualified 2nd in the tournament in Mesa, AZ.

The 1st Place finisher had a Dark Eldar list.
I'm not certain what the 3rd place list was.

I'm not going to be able to make it to Baltimore, however, this is the list I ran in both the 1st 2 rounds:

    Tyranids:

HQ: Flyrant, FH, IA, BP, Warp Field, Whip/Sword, Devourers
Hive Tyrant FH, BP, IA, EC, AG, TS, ES, Shadow in the Warp, Whip/Sword, Venom Cannon
HS: Carnifex, IA, BP, Regen, Spines, Mace, RC, AG, EH, Scything Talnos, Venom Cannon
3 Zoanthropes, Warp Blast, Psychic Scream
    2 Biovores, Bio Acid Mines
Fast Att: 1 Toxin Spore Mine
Elite Carnifex ES, 2 pairs devourers
    Carnifex Deathspitter, Devourers
    8 Warriors 1 Venom Cannon
    3 Devourer, Deathspitter
    4 Deathspitter, scything talons
    biomorphs: EH, TS, EC
    Troop 14 Termagaunts
    18 Spinegaunts
    8 Hormagaunts
    8 Genestealers, FH, FT, Scuttlers
    9 Genestealers, FH, FT
11 Genestealers, EC, FH, FT, TS, Scuttlers

The first round I played a CSM armyy with Abaddon, plague marnies, 3 units of Terminators, and 4 squads of various marines. I got a minor win with 2 battle points. I needed one more kill point for a major.

The second round I played an orc army with Grazkull, Mad Doc G, battlewagon, 2 truks, and a bunch of orks and getchin. I massacred them off the board with full battle points.

The third round I played a hoard like Imperial Guard Army. He had a 50-man conscript army, and a whole lot of troops. He had a flamer tank, and 2 sentiels. There were a few sets of heavy weapons bases with lascannons and autocannons. I got a minor win. He deep-struck in the last turn to contest my objective, I contested his object as well. I was ahead by 1 kill point.

I'm not sure if you consider this an offbeat list, but I've had good success with it.

I finished 3rd here in Colorado, though I'll not be going to the finals in Baltimore. Already at a conference that week. I used dual-lash Chaos:

2x Chaos Sorcerer, Mark of Slaanesh, Lash of Submission, melta bombs
3x 8 Plague Marines, 2 meltas, Champion, powerfist, personal icon, Rhino
2x 7 Noise Marines, 6 sonic blasters, 1 blastmaster, Rhino
7 Noise Marines, 6 sonic blasters, Champion with Doom Siren and meltabombs
    2x 3 Obliterators
    Chaos Land Raider, Daemonic Possession

First round massacred a dual-Wing Dark Angels player. He got hampered by the fact that only one of his 6 squads of terminators arrived on turn two. Next round suffered a Major Defeat against a mech-sisters army (which eventually won second). Made some mental mistakes, and combined that with some poor dice rolling. Third round massacred a Tyranid player who had mostly souped-up gaunts, not very much shooty. Here Lash was absolutely key.

I think the mech-sisters army I faced is a really, really strong list and likely one that will go far. I'll try to reproduce it from memory:

2x Cannoness with book and eviscerator, 5 celestians, 2 meltaguns, Immolator
2x 5 Celestians, 2 meltaguns, VSS with book, Immolator
DH Inquisitor, Emperor's Tarot, 2 mystics, 2 Heirophants
2x 10 Sisters, heavy flamer/flamer, VSS with book, Rhino
4x 10 Sisters, heavy flamer/meltagun, VSS with book, meltabombs, Rhino
    3x Exorcist

Since dedicated transports don't give up KPs, this list becomes much nastier. It can take on hordes, LR lists, and light-armor spam equally well.
  • Warmaster · 1 year ago
Only mistake you made is that the small 5 man celestians squads don't have books or vss's. It's just not worth the extra 15 points. Especially since they are almost always used for tank hunting duty. Also all vehicles had smoke launchers and 2 of the rhinos had search lights.
  • tzeentch · 1 year ago
Heh, right! After playing marines for a while, I just assume that the Rhinos come with smoke and search lights. Old codex!
  • revnow · 1 year ago
What were the top 3 from the CO tournament? I haven't heard anything from the people that went.
  • tzeentch · 1 year ago
    1. Blood Angels (likely not going)
    2. Mech-sisters (Warmaster, above)
    3. Dual-lash Chaos (me, not going)

I know 4th was taken by Eldar (who will be going), and I don't know about 5th place.
  • revnow · 1 year ago
Heh the 5th place was actually the one I was looking for, a double wing player. Gamershaven posted the full results a bit ago. Thank you though

Here in MN, I was helping judge... one of ours was an AC+WH vs. IG fight. Turns out I was right in the AC discussion, Basilisks do a number on those tanks... fun game to watch, but I had to make a lot of rulings...

Also, I'm taking all my IG Heavy Weapons Squads off the big bases pronto. 5th Ed blast rules kill them dead. Separate basing all the way.
  • Lord Severus · 1 year ago
Actually if you look at the IG faq, I beleive it says that when working out blasts, you assume each model is on a 25mm base.
  • Jake Nelson · 1 year ago
You "imagine" each is... which can be, uh, argumentative when people's imaginations disagree. I'd rather put them each on a base, and maybe set those bases on the big one during play...

Also, there's the issue of moving through a 1" wide space. the whole "what your base can pass through" thing gets ugly with a HW Support Squad.

Further, it's nice actually pulling the spotter/loader off, as opposed to putting a counter down saying he's dead. If they're going to be on one base like that, they'd need to be a single 2W model, like an Attack Bike.
