Bell of Lost Souls: Forgeworld Package!

what models do you currently own/ are converting/ getting converted for you?
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
So far just the Vulcan Macharius and the Malcador Annihilator, but Hades Breaching Drills are definitely on my list...
  • faultie · 1 year ago
I must agree with you in your previous statements. I don't actually even play IG, but I do have a Macharius Vulcanian and a Malcador Defender. Both are solid, excellent looking models. I wouldn't say "beautiful", because the Malcador certainly isn't, but it has a magnificent "IG" feel.

    I do wish it wasn't so pricey, though. 13, 12, 11, 2 structure points, 315pts. :(
  • King_Wibble · 1 year ago
Don't be fooled by the breaching drill's looks! Although it looks a lovely model its half the size of a kit kat chunky!!! I was so shocked when I saw it at Games Day UK
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
I have 4 Centaurs which are based on the same chassis as the Hades. I actually like the smaller size.
  • Lord · 1 year ago
what are centaurs stats? don't they let you fire two crew weapons? also, please tell me what you think of my list!
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
Was that all you got in the box? Or was there more stuff because if not that have been a little too much for the shipping they charge.
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
When I pre-ordered the book, I also ordered a Techpriest and some new servitors, But I've been focused on getting my Chaos Daemons done and haven't had any time for my IG stuff.
  • Lord · 1 year ago
OK Mkerr, you asked me to post here, so here goes.

I am a relativly new player (only two years) and play at my local store, which has a lot of MEQs, one very good drop guard player, on Nid(zilla, when he is competitive) a AC, and a slaneshi deamon player who was in the top 10 at Ard boyz. We almost always play on cities of death, but I need to be prepared for all eventualities.

    My current army consists of

    HQ
    Brother captain Stern
Converted GK termie captain, who can be a regular termie
Inq lord with power weapon and psycannon
SM captain with boltgun and powerweapon
    Assorted IG officers

    Elites
    4 termies
    2 deathcult
1 vindicare (who is jinxed, in one game, he never hit a single model!)
    1 deamonhost
    6 ogryns
    5 ratlings
techpriest with 2 CC servitors, 2 Heavy bolter servitors

    Troops
12 grey knights with 2 psycannons, 2 justicars
10 regular storm troopers, +2 sergeants, 1 melta, plasma, grenade and flamer
20(around) Cadians, with 10 special weapons and sergeants
5 SM scouts with sniper rifles

    Fast attack
    sentinel with autocannon

    Heavy support
    Leman Russ
Basalisk (I leant this to a friend, so may not get it back)
chimera( I know it is in the wrong section)

My basic question, is with under $100, how can I create a decent, competitive force, and how do I play it.

My current stratagy is to use my inq, and two storm squadrons to stay behind, and then deep strike my GK, (I use the regulars as FA)
  • CT · 1 year ago
For under $100, I'd recommend Assault on Black Reach. If you have a friend who plays Orks, you could split one (or two would be even better). Next, you really need some mobility so I'd reccomend either a Rhino, Drop Pod, or a Land Raider. I think Pedro Kantor could add some spice to this list (adding +1 attack to Grey Knights can't be a bad thing). Budget wise, I'd model a version of Pedro using a Grey Knight with Storm Bolter and Power Fist.

    HQ
    Pedro Kantor
Daemon Hunter Ally with Teleport Homer (depends on remaining points; probably and anti-tank inquisitor with retinue using your existing guard models)

    Troops
5 Space Marine Scouts w/ Sniper Rifles and Teleport Homer
10 Tactical Marines w/ Flamer, Missile Launcher, and Teleport Homer (in transport)
10 Stormtroopers w/ Flamer, Meltagun, and Teleport Homer in Chimera
    5 Grey Knights

    Elites
5 Grey Knight Terminators? (wasn't specified above)
    5 Space Marine Terminators
    Dreadnaught with Multi-melta

    Fast Attack
    10 Grey Knights

    Heavy Support
    Land Raider (wishful thinking)

I think a Land Raider would be a great investment giving you a mobile base of operations. Another squad of sniper scouts wouldn't hurt either since they are cheap and effective. Incinerators also wouldn't be a bad purchase but $12 isn't cheap (try eBay).

My basic thought is to deploy the scouts using infiltrate as close to an objective as possible; staying stationary and providing cover fire. Go for a second objective with the Storm Trooper Chimera and a centralized objective with the Land Raider containing Pedro and the Tactical Marines. Then deep strike/run units onto the objectives. Use the remaining units to hold your side of the table.

Hopefully you'll find something useful in my rambling. :)
  • Lord · 1 year ago
Well the other advantage for AoBR is that I get the rulebook which I don't already have. I might just download it, but printing is still quite expensive. The other thing is that I would use to storm trooper squads, and teleport in the other GK squad, so I have two termie squads, and two GK squads teleporting. Combined with a solid force to defend my back, I could easily win! But then all plans fail, upon contact with the enemy.
  • CT · 1 year ago
I prefer the AoBR paperback myself; it's cheaper, takes up less space, and is easier to use. Please let me know how things work out when you get to play testing; I think Grey Knights w/ Pedro Kantor could be a fun and competitive list packed with a few surprises. Good luck and happy hunting!
  • Sam · 1 year ago
Ohh, it is DEFINATELY worth it to have a physical copy.

And AoBR is SUCH a good deal, especially if you know an ork player. My lil bro and i split it, even though we got the big rulebook.

And we may get another one eventually.
  • Sam · 1 year ago
You know what is funny? Te Grey KNights actually offer some fantastic modelling opportunities for 2-piece metal models. I am modelling a Vulkan He'Stan off of one, and they could lend them selves to all sorts of cool stuff, especially artificer armor, or any othe special/legendary armor.

I may even make 2. One with helmet, and one without (so you can see his skin).
  • CT · 1 year ago
Forgot to mention Pedro also provides an Orbital Strike which should provide an interesting surprise for your opponent.
  • Lord · 1 year ago
Well one Idea I was playing with was having two separate forces, a deamonhunters, and a SM, so I would take a master/pedro cantor, with 10 tacticals, 5 scouts, 5 termies and a dread, and then as my DH list, I would take a Grand/brother captain/inq 2 squads of stormies, 2 FA GKs, and an orbital bombardment, so I would have two of them!
  • Bobx66 · 1 year ago
Khorne themed LOTD? Hell.Yes. Please get us details on the list!
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
I've been reading through the story and it's great so far (much like the well-wriiten Siege of Vraks Part 1).

The "Servants of Slaughter" are a Khorne themed Renegades army (following the same basic build as the Renegades army list from the previous book). This one has a lot of Khorne elements, including 0-1 Exalted Champion of Khorne (basically a Khorne marked Chaos Lord with fewer options), Khorne Berserkers, Ogryn Berserkers, Bloodgor Beastman Attack Squads (6pt models with Furious Charge and two close combat weapons!), and Hounds of Xaphan (basically wolves with an Ogryn handler).

No Daemons in the list but IG with Khorne Berserkers would be a heck of a lot of fun to play.
  • bobx66 · 1 year ago
Those models sound like they are gonna be amazing.
  • zanzibarthefirst · 1 year ago
Siege dreadnaught has changed, it no longer uses the Inferno Cannon, instead it uses the flamestorm cannon same as Redemer land Raider.

The khorne LaTD list is nice, similar to the one in IA% except khorne aspiring champions, khorne berzerkers, hounds of xaphan and the hell blade/talon.

I was disappointed there wasn't a sneak preview of C:IG
  • W.Irving · 1 year ago
First things first - Drop the vindicaire!

He is bad, especially in CoD!

Good unit combos you should try and make are

GK Bro Cap - Psycannon, 2x GKT, Psycannon - 200ish points, 6 str 6 shots per turn, pretty much immune to return fire from Shrouding.

Inquisitor Lord - psycannon, 3x HB servitors, 2x mystics = death to deepstrikers...

10x PAGK - The best troop choice in the game. All but impossible to wipe, deadly in assault, fearless.

Sentinel - Autocannon + HKM = outflank and then bust up some rear armor...

I'd recommend meltaguns for your Special Weapons, as you should be able to sneak up to armor easily enough.

Other than that, just play around with it...

What options do the engineers have- only shotguns and Mole Launchers? or can vet take a pistol, etc...
doing some converting until my book arrives!
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
Engineers are armed with Shotguns and Frag/Krag Grenades. You can give the whole squad Gas Grenades. Two can replace their shotguns with Mole Launchers. Once can take a Demo Charge. The Watchmaster (sergeant) can take Meltabombs.

Sorry, no pistol on the watchmater.

The mole launcher is a too-cool-for-school gun. I'm definitely going to be adding one or two of these units to my Imperial Guard army.
  • TheInnerGeek · 1 year ago
I hear you on the wait time. I about went into shock yesterday afternoon when mine arrived! It's a good book so far, I look forward hearing what you think about it once you've read a bit more of it. My only complaint is the typos. I'm reading the fluff and it's averaging close to one typo per page... proof readers!?!

Also, I have to claim bias on the signed copy. I ordered mine in the first few hours after it was available for pre-order and still didn't make the first 500! I think they just sent you a signed one because they like you better!
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
Either the typos don't bother me or I haven't spotted any.

The email says my order was placed on "16 August 2008 02:42 GMT" -- what time was your confirmation?
  • TheInnerGeek · 1 year ago
    "Order Date: 15 August 2008 17:57 GMT"

It's all good. I'm not sure FW pays that much attention to the order of things being shipped or in what order they send it out. For example, I've communicated with a guy on a forum who ordered his Reaver Titan months before I did, but mine has a much lower production number.

I hope you are enjoying the book as much as I am. I don't know why the typos stick out so much to me... maybe you got the no typo version too! You lucky git!

Siege Dreadnought has been changed. The flame cannon now functions as the same gun on the Land Raider Redeemer instead of a hellhound and doesn't run out of fuel.
  • captainwhizz · 1 year ago
the siege dread's gun has changed- it's a redeemer gun now, not a hellhound gun
  • Bobx66 · 1 year ago
Wow, this has already been posted twice. Including the post directly above you, posted at least 12 hours before you posted. GG.

Mkerr, we need more in depth info! Keep us posted.

Also has anyone got the masterclass book yet? I ordered mine :)
  • Lord · 1 year ago
Ok so I worked on two new lists, where I get a AoBR box and a squad of storm troopers. they are a SM army w/ DH allies:

    HQ
Captain/Master w/ various equiptment depending on cost and codex (I don't have mine yet)

    Inq Lord, psycannon
    2 servitors w/ H. Bolters
    Mystic
    Sage
~156 points(I don't have my DH codex either!)

    Elites
Dreadnought, multimelt, CC weapon (around 115 points?)

    Troops
10 marines, flamer, missile launcher, sergeant (175? i think I remember this number)
    5 scouts, 4x snipers, missile launcher--105?
    5 scouts, 4x snipers, missile launcher--105?
10 Storm troopers, 2x meltas, sergeant, p weapon, b. pistol--146( I am considering the sergeant, but at +26 points, he is a bit pricey. I might instead add some more guys to the captain or Inq)
    10 storm troopers, 2x plasma--120

this is around 1000 points, but as I do not have either codex on me, I am not sure. I also want to add a deamonhost in, as I think they are awsome!

I think it will play well, in CoD, with the dreadnought, captain, and two ST squads advancing, the marines and inq lord providing cover, and the two scouts harassing the enemy. My main weakness would be tanks, but I have enough meltas/ plasmas/ missile launchers to take them out, and to avoid them. against horde, I have a lot of good guns, as well as two pinning squads. Overall, 5 troops in 1000 is quite good.

Guys, please criticize as much as you can, but remember I only have certain models!
  • Lord · 1 year ago
Ok, here is my second, pure DH list. I currently have its 1250, but it could easily be expanded to 1500 or down to 1000

    HQ
    Inq lord, psycannon
    2 warriors w/ bolters
    mystic
    sage
    --156?

    GK Brother captain
    4 terminators
    incinerator
    --260

    Troops
10 ST, 2x flamers, vet sarge. p. weapon, bolt pistol--126
    8 ST, 2xmeltas--100
    5 ST, 2x plasmas--70
    7 Grey knights, justicar--200
5 grey knights, justicar, two psycannons--200

    Heavy Support
GK dreadnought, multimelta, CC weapon--115? ( I really cannot remember)

If I wanted to get it to 1000, I would drop the dreadnought, and one ST squad. for 1500 I would add a tooled up IG armoured fist squad, and some assasins. Again, all these points are aproximate, so if anyone can total them up for me, I would be grateful!

Tactically, I would just use the GK (termies, regulars and Dread) to assault straight at the enemy, ignoring fire with 2+ saves, shrouding, and 12 armour.

The inq would then hold the back of the table with the stormies, with the plasmas providing fire support, and the flamers assaulting. what do you think?
  • CT · 1 year ago
I'd probably trade the lord's psycannon to upgrade both warriors to heavy bolter servitors. The way I roll dice (poorly), I prefer six shots to three.

Unless you're using Holocaust x2, play the GK terminators as Elites. HQ provides 2kp (+1 for retinue).

I know you're playing what you have but I usually play the psycannons on the terminators because they can move and fire heavy weapons (helps a lot when deep striking). Leaving the power-armored GK with the incinerators since they are assault weapons; so they can also move and shoot.

Have you considered allying Sisters of Battle (instead of buying more stormtroopers)? 11pts ea. for a bolter, 3+ save, and faithpoints; definitely could add an edge to your army.
  • Lord · 1 year ago
  • Lord · 1 year ago
I included H. Bolters (heavy bolters) and used warriors instead of servitors because it is clearer (to me).

I need a GK hero in order to take a GK dreadnought.

I thought about the psycannon idea, but incinerators are cheaper. I will try to use a psycannon, but I think I am already over the limit in points.

Sisters seem like an excellent option, is there any disadvantage?

Finally can you total up the points? I lost my DH codex, so cannot do so myself.
  • CT · 1 year ago
2nd list says warriors with bolters; no H.

I have to admit since I use GK as allies (no heavy support) I've never noticed the dreadnaught's requirement.

The psycannon/incinerator comment is more of a general note for improved mobility. If you're going to include both, psycannons are better on terminators and incinerators are better on power armour.

I don't know of any glaring downsides to sisters. Troops have limited options; regular and heavy bolters/flamers. Slightly worse stats than a space marine but better than a stormtrooper's for only 11pts. And faith points are free (they work kind of like a one-per-point minor psychic powers). That's probably why you see mkerr add them to his imperial lists most of the time.

I don't have my books available or I'd gladly help you out. I'm pretty sure a full tactical squad with free weapons and a 35pt transport is 205pts which should make your squad 170pts. Pretty sure base dreadnaught is 115pts. Scout sniper rifles are free now; but I'm not sure on the missile launcher. However, cloaks (+1 cover save) are 3pts each. The new codex is a lot to absorb (I've only had mine a week). I have a toddler who would love to get his hands on it so I have to read after hours to keep it from utter destruction.
  • Lord · 1 year ago
    I meant H. Bolters

The dreadnought's requirement is really annoying, but I have to deal with it.

I guess the psycannon is slightly better, but I will never forget the time when I toasted 7 plaguebearers, (killing them all) and then assaulted another unit of plaguebearers, killing them all. That completely destroyed my oponents army!

I will look into sisters, but I also need to get their codex. The great thing about ST is that I can use them in IG, DH, SoB, or even allied SM!

I will try and figure out the points by cross refencing. So if I read you correctly, a scout with sniper rifle and cloak is 16 points?
  • CT · 1 year ago
Just to clarify; Incinerators are great (better than Heavy Flamers). But they are only 10pts (and assault weapons) on power armoured GK and 15pts on Terminators. I'd flip flop where you've placed your GK heavy weapons because your squads would be able to move and shoot all their weapons that way.

    Here' your point totals:
Master/Captain (Base Option Includes: Power Armour, Chainsword, Bolt Pistol, Frag & Krak Granades, Iron Halo) = 125/100pts (The extra 25pts covers the Master’s Orbital Bombardment; otherwise the only relevant difference is Honor Guard/Command Squad retinues)

    Inquisitor Lord w/ Psycannon = 75pts
    2 Servitors w/ Heavy Bolters = 50pts
    Mystic = 10pts
    Sage = 6pts
    Total = 141pts

10 Space Marine Tactical Squad w/ Sergeant*, Flamer, and Missile Launcher = 170pts
    5 Scouts w/ Sergeant*, 4 Sniper Rifles and Missile Launcher = 85pts
    5 Scouts w/ Sergeant*, 4 Sniper Rifles and Missile Launcher = 85pts
10 Storm Troopers w/ 2 Meltaguns, Veteran Upgrade w/ Power Weapon and Bolt Pistol = 146pts
    10 Storm Troopers w/ 2 Plasma guns = 120pts

Dreadnought w/ Multi-Melta and DCC Weapon, Storm Bolter, Smoke Launchers, and Searchlight = 105pts

    Grand Total w/ Master = 977pts
    Grand Total w/ Captain = 952pts
    * Sergeants are now included in the base cost of all Space Marine squads.

    Inquisitor Lord w/ Psycannon = 75pts
    2 Servitors w/ Heavy Bolters = 50pts
    Mystic = 10pts
    Sage = 6pts
    Total = 141pts

Grey Knight Brother Captain w/ 4 Terminators and Incinerator = 260pts

10 Storm Troopers w/ 2 Flamers, Veteran Upgrade w/ Power Weapon and Bolt Pistol = 136pts
    8 Storm Troopers w/ 2 Meltaguns = 100pts
    5 Storm Troopers w/ 2 Plasma guns = 70pts
    7 Grey Knights w/ Justicar Upgrade = 200pts
5 Grey Knights, Justicar Upgrade, and 2 Psycannons = 200pts

Grey Knight Dreadnought w/ Multi-Melta, DCC Weapon, and Storm Bolter = 120pts

    Grand Total = 1227pts

Is there any reason you’re not using the Holocaust psychic power? Inquisitors, Grey Knight Heroes, and Grey Knight Retinues/Terminators can all purchase it for 20pts each. The full rules are on the Daemonhunters ref sheet that can be downloaded from the GW website.
  • Lord · 1 year ago
Well in truth, I have Psycannons on all my GK models, so I thought I would use the one on the Terminators as a incinerator. I guess it is a matter of how scary the opposing army is in CC, so if it is a stealer nid army, then I will use incinerators. if it is tau, than psycannons. also, it depends if I am deepstriking them.

What would you use the extra 48/23 points for in the first list? a power weapon for the master? some extra retinue for the Inq? holocaust, a psychic hood? the options are endless.

again for the bigger list, I could upgrade the inq, add a psychic hood, add a psycannon, holocaust, or add stuff to the dread. I think an incinerator on the dread would be nice!

If I had to play now, I would use a captain, and then add a Chimera, with the extra points, dropping the veteren ST with power weapon. alternativly, I could use it as a rhino, but I don't think my opponent will let me.

As for the bigger list, I might just add holocaust, for fun.

Mkerr, where are you? but thank you CT anyway!
  • CT · 1 year ago
I hate sounding like a broken record but if you can increase the leftover 23pts to 50pts (dropping the IST Veteran will get you within 1pt) you could upgrade the master to Pedro at 175pts. +50pts and every friendly squad within 12" is +1A. He comes with a power fist and Dorn's Arrow (S4, AP4, Asssault 4). Sounds like a bargain to me because +1A is usually 10pts a model, a power fist is usually 25pts, and a double stormbolter would be at least 10pts.

Alternatively, you could go with a Librarian. They are 100pts which includes a force weapon and 2 psychic powers of your choice. M kerr was planning on Gate of Infinity and The Avenger with his list. Gate would give you the ability to pick up the librarian with any squad he's joined and redeploy within 24" using deepstrike. Freeing up points towards the chimera; giving you two forms of transport.

I1 is the worst part about Holocaust but when a S5 large blast hits a piled in combat (no scatter) it can easily decimate a lightly armoured horde.
  • Lord · 1 year ago
    OK, the new rendition:
    Pedro Kantor=175

    Inquisitor Lord w/ Psycannon = 75pts
    2 Servitors w/ Heavy Bolters = 50pts
    Mystic = 10pts
    Sage = 6pts
    Total = 141pts

10 Space Marine Tactical Squad w/ Sergeant*, Flamer, and Missile Launcher = 170pts
    5 Scouts w/ Sergeant*, 4 Sniper Rifles and Missile Launcher = 85pts
    5 Scouts w/ Sergeant*, 4 Sniper Rifles and Missile Launcher = 85pts
    10 Storm Troopers w/ 2 Meltaguns = 120pts
    10 Storm Troopers w/ 2 Plasma guns = 120pts

Dreadnought w/ Multi-Melta and DCC Weapon, Storm Bolter, Smoke Launchers, and Searchlight = 105pts

    1001 points
    * Sergeants are now included in the base cost of all Space Marine squads.

The option for the last point is to drop a melta/plasma gun off the IST, and add a flamer.

Alternatively, I could drop the mystid (6 points, and add something for 5 points, teleport homer?

Anyway, thanks CT, for all your hard work. When I try the list out, I will tell you how is goes!
