Bell of Lost Souls: MACHARIAN CRUSADE: GAME 1

Can we really Forgecraft our super heavies?
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
    This is a tough one.

Normally, no it would only apply to tank units in the armored company list. But the Kallastin Stratocracy army isn't an "armored company" list. It has Forgecrafted is a regular doctrine for them (along with Techpriest Engiseers, Close Order Drill, Storm Troopers and Iron Discipline).

Looking up Forgecrafted, it says it applies to all tanks and is a "special equipment doctrine" (and you have to put it on every tank). Unfortunately, that seems to apply to my Centaurs and Chimeras and Basilisks instead of just my Leman Russes. But super heavy tanks are also tanks.

I left in a couple of hundred extra points just in case they decide that it only applies to Leman Russ tanks....

    What do you think?

i don't want to sound like a newbie, but what is "forgecrafted"?
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
A 20pt vehicle upgrade that allows you to re-roll the result of a single Glancing or Penetrating hit. Basically a 1-use "venerable".

Nice list, but a bit skimpy on the troops! only 7 choices!
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
Troops aren't necessary at all in this game. All I have to do is kill Lord Solar Macharius to win.
  • Lord · 1 year ago
In that case I succeed my point. Will you take a look at my army in the forge world page? Thanks--Lord
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
Definitely - sorry about not getting back to that sooner -- I'll try to have some feedback for you tomorrow.

Ok, so if you want to kill macharius, the surely the officio assasinorium execution force (http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProdu...) fits the bill!

Just imagine 6 vindicares, taking out macharius on the first turn! or having 3 everesors taking him on without a bodyguard! or culuxes destroying his weak minded bodyguard and then destroying him! or some calliduses doing a lightening strike, and elimating the target in seconds.

Alternativly, get the emperors Tarot so you go first, and get so many ordanance weapons, his entire army is destroyed!

I know this is cheasy, but I am sure your opponent will have some tricks as well!

The thing is that doesn't really fit the fluff. Only Marcharius would have assassins on his side as the forces of the Imperium.
  • Lord · 1 year ago
OK, well what is the fluff of the Kallastin Stratocracy? Are they highly advanced? Do they have excellent snipers? You can make anything fit the fluff if you want to!
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
Nah, I don't want to be a jerk (and I'm not going to focus my attacks on Lord Solar), but if he gets in my crosshairs....
  • mkerr · 1 year ago
It was a great game! We had to change the mission objectives halfway through (it was almost impossible for Solar's force to win). The game came down to an exciting last turn and hinged on the roll of a single die!

I totally love when that happens. It was beautiful and awesome to see so many guard games happening -- we had something like 40 players and only a single army that had power armor in it.

I wish people used less tanks in apoaclypse games... They make things somehow far less epic and much more depressing, and the template death syndrone tends to lead to battles being more one sided favouring those that go first.

It often seems so inaccurate that every Imperial army list is like one platoon of around 50 men, and then somewhere in the region of 12 tanks and 2 super heavies...

Ah well. Each to there own.

Actually tank on tank, especially Russ on Russ is not very killy at all. str8 battlecannon against 14 front armor tends to lead to a lot of nothing.

It's the poor people that have large infantry based armies, (Like me) that cry. 7,000 Points of Craftworld infantry dies rather quickly in a shootout with a Imperial Guard armoured company or two that goes first. And guess, what? It takes me a heck of a lot longer to arrange 200 + infantry than It does for guard to put down 20 tank models, so I allways tend to go second...
